about me
Dylan Engelman
I was born in Connecticut, but spent most my life in West Palm Beach, FL. Here I spent most my days geeking out and doing math problems. After years of studying math and playing video games I decided I wanted to learn to design video games. My best friend whom just returned from SCAD for 3D modeling moved into my garage and we began work on our first incomplete title “Apoc”, followed by our second incomplete title “Orbital”.
I’ve spent the last 2 and a half years now, huddled in my house teaching myself to program. I spent the majority of my time on forums just answering questions and electing help from a handful of experienced developers in C++, C#, and AS3. I personally have stayed in AS3 most of the time merely because it has very fast dev times and it is an easy outlet for freelancing and paying my bills.
This site is kind of my hand back to these communities. I want to thank all those people from those forums I spend time at for helping me learn, and for continuing to help me learn. I’m no professional yet and in my own opinion will never be. You can always learn more! But to all the amateurs, novices, experts, etc… thank you for your help may it even only be asking me a question you yourself don’t know. It’s my pleasure as it is hard to come up with questions on your own! Learning is a group effort! And this website is a strange ensamble of that which I’ve learned.
You may notice as you progress through the months of this website that some stuff I state will seem childish and I contradict even myself later on. This is specifically related to my earlier point… I am learning, you are learning, and the combination of that with my own public errors highlight that. You to can even learn from those mistakes just by recognizing them in me.
Need Something?
I’m available for questions and work. Any questions about my blog that you want to avoid leaving as a comment can be directed to my email.
If you need work on the other hand I am available to freelance Flash Actionscript 3.0 / Flex 3. I also work in other languages, but prefer to avoid freelance projects in C or C similar languages (C#, C++).

Assistance Needed
To all you artists out there. As I get job requests I sometimes need an artist to help me out with the work. I’m a programmer, not a graphics major. I have one friend to contact right now when I need some work done for me, but he is very busy with his full time job. If you’d like the chance to be subcontracted for some work and have reasonable rates, please contact me and supply a link with your work.
There isn’t a constant flow of jobs, so you’ll have to be available on call via email. There can’t be any waiting 2 or 3 days for you to get back to me with an answer if you can help with this project, or that project. But it is a good chance to get some extra money in your back pocket.
So email me and with some discussion we can sort out an arrangement for us to work together on future projects.
Requirements
- Must have copies of relevant software - Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash CS3 (CS3 required for AS3 development), etc
- Must be knowledgeable of said software
- Must be able to work with me to develop graphic design patterns. When working on larger projects like video games animations and naming schemes must be constructed in a well formed manner that transfers to code in a meaningful process. Knowledge of design patterns for Sprite Scrolls and bone animations are a plus when being considered for large projects like video games.
